The dodo. Just discovered in Mauritius around 1600, but completely extinct 80 years later thanks to the arrival of Dutch colonists. In 2023, scientists are mapping the DNA of this mysterious creature in order to bring it back to life through genetic engineering and restore ecosystems. An opportunity to finally turn this dark page in history. But what if this works? How do we ensure that the dodo survives this time? SETUP presents the first working prototype of a high-tech fully automatic exoskeleton that makes the dodo 21st century-proof and gives this strange bird a fair second chance. SETUP is a platform for a technology-critical society. With artists and researchers they make the ethical and social consequences of technological developments tangible. Project Dodo explores the phenomenon of 'tech solutionism'. Where does the human tendency come from to solve the major problems of our time with innovations and technical quick-fixes.
